Speak with the River · First words
Lesson
You are about to meet -ra everywhere, so meet it properly now. -ra is the small marker that says this is my statement — it hooks onto the first word of the sentence. Éa is “I”; Éara is “I” with the statement switched on: Éara óxai — “I sleep.” Same with mía → miara. That is the whole idea. Careful speech keeps it, everyday speech often contracts it, and in songs it may be dropped for the sake of rhythm.
w_eara-lento · w_eara-normalw_miara-lento · w_miara-normalw_oxati-lento · w_oxati-normalc1-m1-l3.mp4For the rest of the course, whenever you see -ra, read it as a small spoken underline: “this, I'm telling you.”
The old course used this from its fourth lesson without ever naming it. Naming it once, early, makes every sentence that follows readable. One place -ra hides: the little word ríki, “is”, from your name lesson is iki already wearing its -ra — so a sentence built on ríki has its statement mark built in, and needs no second one.
