Did we miss something?

Almost certainly. This course is assembled from documents and from the voices of a small number of speakers. If you know a word that is missing, or one we have written wrong, or your community says it differently — tell us, and it goes in.

Record with us

If you speak Shipibo, the recording app walks you through it word by word — in Spanish, on a phone or a laptop, at whatever pace suits you. It takes as long as it takes, and you can stop and come back. Nothing is published without your permission.

Tell us we got it wrong

Every word in the course carries a source and a verification status, and none of it has been confirmed by a fluent speaker yet — so a correction from you outranks anything we wrote. Wrong spelling, wrong meaning, a word that is really Quechua, something that should not be taught publicly at all: write to us.

Add what is missing

Here is what we know is missing:

  • Numbers past ten.
  • Most of the body, most food, most everyday verbs.
  • Words for asking: where, when, who.
  • How to say you are ill, or in pain, or need to rest.
  • Meraya — we have been told there is a further grade of healer beyond the onanya. It appears nowhere in our sources, so we do not teach it. It goes in when a speaker gives it to us.
  • The Shipibo names of nine of the twelve plants on our plants page. The Quechua names are easy to find; those are not the ones we want.

What happens to what you send

It gets checked against our sources, credited to you by name if you want that, and added. If two communities disagree, we keep both and say which river each came from. We do not quietly standardise your language into one version and call it the correct one.

If Shipibo is your language, everything here is free to you — the course, the dictionary, the recordings. Write to info@thecommunitygarden.org.
