Saying what you are about to do

Shipibo actions unfold in order, and the order starts with an announcement: -ban — I will do it. Add the listener and it becomes -banon — I will do it, between you and me. Ban is an open statement to no one in particular; banon implies someone receiving — the teachers' example was the healer speaking to a patient. Announcing is about intention: you say what you will do before you do it.
