Speak with the River · First words
Lesson
By the end of this module you can: Greet anyone, say your name, and thank them.
Three things and you can read every word in this course. One: x sounds like English sh — máxko is MAHSH-ko. Two: j is a breathy English h — jakón is ha-KOHN. Three: the accent mark shows the stressed syllable — and it matters, because moving it can change the word. That's it. Everything else reads close to Spanish or English, and the full sound system gets its own lesson at the end of this module.

Two housekeeping notes, once and for all: capital letters work as in English — sentence starts and names. And when a whole sentence comes straight from a recording or a book, we keep its spelling exactly as the speaker gave it, accent marks and all; the word cards always carry the accent.
